ncIMPACT examines upward mobility in Forsyth County by looking at early education for children to set them up for future success. This series is a partnership between UNC-TV & the UNC School of Government w/ generous support of Civic Federal Credit Union.

Serve Santa Maria begins their day of community charity work at Miller Elementary this Saturday.

Learn about this amazing nonprofit educational facility which has been providing education to children in the seacoast for more than 56 years. They currently serve 300 children starting at age 8 weeks from 23 seacoast towns.
Melissa Caldwell, Executive Director shares how they provide full-time, after-school, vacation, and summer care for local children at their facility and in local schools. Learn who they help, the scholarships they offer (32% receive some sort of support), and where they stand post-covid. Hear about their challenges including finding staffing that could allow them to add up to two more classrooms, the difficulty of providing a "livable wage" for their staff, and how they are dealing with the increasing costs of food and other expenses. Their needs continue to grow for support and volunteers.
